Non-shrinking Kapton® insulating sleeves

CMC Klebetechnik offers insulating sleeves with excellent properties based on the well-known Kapton® HN film. The sleeves can be customized in a wide range - be it the diameter, the length or the wall thickness.

Insulating sleeves made of Kapton® achieve exceptionally good mechanical stability even at high temperatures. They are therefore suitable for Class H (180°C) applications. Even short-term temperature loads of up to 250°C are possible for these insulations, which drastically increases the reserves in the event of an incident.

Multilayer, precision-wound protective sleeves made of Kapton® from DuPont have very good dielectric strength, which is not lost even at very high and very low temperatures. For applications where a very thin, round insulation structure is required, insulating sleeves made of Kapton® HN (CR or MT on request) are ideal.

The insulating sleeves can have a minimum wall thickness of 28µm. They are custom-made and in standard with diameters from 1.60 mm to 210 mm. The length of the sleeves can be largely freely selected (on request).

If higher tensile strengths are required, Kapton® film with 25 µm, 50 µm, 75 µm or even 125 µm thickness can be used. Or several layers are wound on top of each other. The adhesive used guarantees that no sleeve opens accidentally under temperature.

At 25 µm film thickness, the standard Kapton® HN film has

  • at -196°C (N2 liquefaction temperature) 10.8 kV breakdown voltage,

  • at room temperature 7.0 kV and

  • at 200°C still 5.6 kV breakdown voltage.

Kapton® sleeves can be used, for example, in electric motor construction (end caps), in transformer construction (protection for rejections / cable outlets), in electronics as insulation sleeves e.g. of screw connections, in aviation as extremely lightweight insulation, as heat-resistant cable protection in automotive engineering or in household appliances. In the thermally conductive version also for e.g. heater applications.
